Joe Peters is a young glass artist from western Massachusetts. Majoring in art at Holyoke Community College, Joe studied furnace glass and torch working at Snow Farm in Williamsburg, Massachusetts. Working with Bob Burch and Sally Prasch, Joe discovered glass to be a fast-paced medium he finds both a thrill and a challenge. Utilizing borosilic, and dichroic glass, Joe creates one-of-a-kind works of art. Each piece is hand blown and heated to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit producing a strong, high gloss finish. In addition to commissioned work, Joe has produced several series of individual pendants reflecting colors and patterns found in nature.
"I've spent a lot of time outdoors, camping, climbing and scuba diving. My work reflects those experiences. I really like the way that glass responds to the flame allowing me to form and create pieces spontaneously. When I start a piece I have something in mind but I'm never quite sure exactly what the result will be. That's the fun and exciting part about glass. There are no second chances."
